Service learning activities enables our students to leave the classroom and give back to their commuity. The students develop a plan and organize an activity from start to finish. The one requirement for this service project is that it must benefit society. An example of this is regular visitation to a Nursing Home, see photo right. Many of our students are interested in mechanics, woodworking or crafts. We offer classes that involve disassembling / reassembling small engines (lawnmowers). In this process the students learn what makes an internal combustion engine function. Some of our students want to try their skills at woodworking. Something as simple as designing, drawing, cutting, and assembling bird feeders / bird houses becomes both an educational and a functional experience.
Building rockets that actually "lift off" and "return to earth" by parachute is thrilling. The best part is the design and construction of the rockets. Many of the students personalize the rockets with colors, decals, and messages that have meaning to them or their friends. This process stimulates creativity in our astronauts of the future. We are a small school, but our students think big, and have fun when they learn. Below is a list of "fun" extra-curricular activities are students take part in: Rocketry Carpentry Botany/Gardening Economics Sewing Journalism Home Economics Stained Glass |
